Two pot brewing pt. 4:
The Ferment

The wort is ready ferment.  The foam on top is from my cheap but effective aerator.  You can see my cheap lager box.

Ok, the design should be self-explanatory from the photo - but this is two sheets of 4x8 styrofoam insulation, duct taped into three sides of a box in an outside facing corner near a draughty window.  That piece you see duct-taped on the back wall helps keep the lid from falling into the box.

The temperature stays between 40F and 55F, depending how cold it is outside.

This day, for example, it's -5C (mild), and therefore 52F in the lager box.  Perfect for primary fermentation.

The beautiful box, full of fermenting beer, like a huge present on Christmas morning.  I should put a bow on top.

All grain brewing is hard work, especially for the assistants.

They are, of course, no help when it comes to dealing with the aftermath of two boilovers!

Six hours later, and there's a bit of foam - if you re-pitch healthy yeast from a previous batch, you should see this in about 2 hours.

Well, that's the tour.  As always, feel free to sign my guestbook and let me know what you think!
